講題：Older people in Earthquake in Japan - Experience from Kobe 1995 and from Tohoku 2011

演講活動介紹：Japan is known for Earthquakes. At the time of disasters, the weak such as older people are often the hard-hit population. It was the case of 1995 Kobe Earthquake and now is again the case of the 2011 East Japan Earthquake. Otani will report the mid and longer term implications of earthquake, taking the 1995 Kobe Earthquake as a case study, and making references to the 2011 East Japan Earthquake and the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake in Sichuan, China. Otani’s presentation will be based on her book ”Older People in Natural Disasters” 災難後的重生 published in 2010, which reported the life reconstruction process of the post-earthquake community with ageing population in Kobe. The presentation will not limit to it but will try to build on that considering the next coming disasters.
